UCONN Scholarships
AIND has contributed to the UCONN Foundation to establish an endowment to fund two annual scholarships in memory of our long time friend and colleague Pat Hiles.
Pat Hiles Scholarship in Speech and Language Pathology
Students eligible for the scholarship must meet the following criteria:
i. Be an incoming or continuing upper-level junior or senior undergraduate or graduate
student enrolled full-time or part-time in the College;
ii. Be majoring in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences;
iii. Demonstrate financial need; and
iv. Be an aspiring Speech and Language Pathologist with demonstrated interest in focusing on student populations with complex Autism in a school setting (including, without limitation,
student who are non or minimally speaking and may have co-occurring biomedical, health
and genetic diagnoses). Demonstrated interest will be determined by the University in its
discretion and may include, without limitation, research, employment, clinical placement,
coursework, or other activities.
From those candidates that meet the criteria above, priority consideration will
be given to students who have a special interest in transformative technology, such as augmentative and alternative communication, to better support communication.
Pat Hiles Scholarship in Special Education
Students eligible for the scholarship must meet the following criteria:
i. Be an incoming or continuing undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in the School
majoring in special education, including, without limitation, students enrolled in the School’s
Integrated Bachelor/Masters Teachers Education Program or Teacher Certification Program
for College Graduates;
ii. Demonstrate financial need; and
iii. Be an aspiring special education teacher with demonstrated interest in serving a population
of students with complex Autism diagnoses requiring significant support needs in a school
setting as determined by the University. Interest may be demonstrated, without limitation,
through research, employment, clinical placement, other activities, or coursework.
